All,
If we are living life in a productive self expanding way then there is no space or time for outdated paradigms or emotional ties to long held beliefs. Change is the only constant and embracing that is the only way to learn more and to move the species forward.
So far, that “moving forward” process seems to have been on of struggle against the odds. A “fight for survival”, if you will. However, now we have the technology, the understandings and the paradigms for collaborative working that means we no longer need the old “fight for the right to live” model. Open collaboration and the sharing of knowledge and understanding is a far more productive way to exist. A very practical example of this open sharing model of existence is the one embodied in Free Software as designated by licences such as the GPL (GPL ). All contributions, in essence, are considered “public” an available to everyone. Yet, from the back of such a model hugely successful companies function; Canonical, Red Hat, SugarCRM etc (Open Source Companies)
In this post (Competition, but not as we know it) we hinted at expanding this model into the “main market” in general, as a way of losing the largest drag factor on development today; profit.
As we know, paradoxically, that change is the only constant, we can assert that any beliefs that we hold dear today will be the lies of tomorrow; from Fluoride is good for you to Fluoride is a poison ("Flouride") to “smoking is cool” 1930’s ( it has no bad side affects ) to “Smoking kills”.
An exciting, but very much controversial in terms of physics, technology is the one the guys at Steorn (Steron ) are working on. They claim to have a machine that produces more energy than it is supplied. I’ve not looked hard enough at the data to be convinced either way, but even if they are wrong, in my opinion, they should be encouraged as who’s to say what other kind of technology will come off of the back of their research? Also, they are adopting a collaborative approach when it comes to moving their technology forward. (Collaboration)
Further to these technical advancements in software and energy production we have whole communities that are advocating a free and open development model for the existence of humanity, as a whole. For more information on their efforts check out (Zeitgeist Movement ) [Slow site] and Venus Project . In my opinion it would be naive in the extreme to suggest that any visions of The Venus Project will resemble how, as a species, we get around to actually doing things on this planet in the future, but the open model of collaboration, for humans, and not for profit, is central to their thinking.
It is foolish to make predictions about the feasibility or even the general level of adoption of any technology, so I’m not about to do that, however it is safe to say that there are collaborative systems and communities of humans that are actively and freely giving of their time to projects and “ideas” which I, personally, hope will shape the next step of the evolution of humanity.
We have proven, logically, that capitalism is “anti-human”. ( RealityInfo.Org )
Will you be part of the generation that decides that life is worth living, and not just fighting for?
Peace,
Dunk
